LARC 2010 - Studio III Design with Plants
3 Credit Hours
This course is an introductory studio focusing on the use of plants in creating landscape form and structure, providing ecosystem services, and overall aesthetics. Students explore design principles which enforce spatial and visual composition. Particular attention is paid to suitability, regional character, and the use of native plants within the overall landscape ecology. The functional and aesthetic aspects of plants are explored in both historical and contemporary themes such as environmental improvement, ornamental, medicinal, agricultural, cultural, and other uses. Planting design issues such as urban forestry, turf grass, green roof & wall systems, and green infrastructure are introduced. Students will use a systematic approach to planting design, plant specification and quality control.
